There are 4 common grill designs which are used in Mumbai; all of which are fabricated using solid MS rods.

The most common grill has a hexagonal (6 sided) shape similar to a honeycomb design. This is made by bending alternate MS rods; also commonly called zig-zag design. This design allows the maximum open space between alternate rods. The bars are usually of 6 or 8 mm thickness.  




Similarly, you can have a rectangular brick pattern as per the image below:





The 3rd type of grill is also rectangular but instead of a brick formation, the design is absolutely linear. This is costlier because of the use of male-female clamps as visible below:





Lastly, you have bright bars / MS rods clamped together with a unique clamp, this design is fondly called a "vita" grill by old-timers.
